About the role

XM is looking for an experienced Go Developer to join its technology team and work on secure, scalable and high-performance software systems.

You will contribute to challenging backend projects involving multithreading, cloud infrastructure, microservices and performance optimisation. Working alongside experienced engineering professionals, you will design and maintain cloud-based services and APIs while helping improve the reliability and quality of production applications.

The team works with technologies including Go, AWS cloud services, Terraform, REST APIs and gRPC. You will have opportunities to contribute ideas, participate in technical discussions and continue developing your engineering expertise.

What you’ll be doing

• Write clean, simple, maintainable and testable Go code.

• Design, build and maintain cloud-based backend services.

• Develop scalable APIs and microservices.

• Work on systems involving multithreading and high-performance processing.

• Monitor the reliability and performance of production applications.

• Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.

• Debug backend services and identify the root causes of failures.

• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive technical feedback.

• Review code quality, maintainability and adherence to engineering standards.

• Contribute to service architecture and technical-design decisions.

• Work with SQL and NoSQL databases.

• Support the deployment and operation of containerised applications.

• Help automate application deployment, scaling and service management.

• Benchmark applications and identify opportunities for performance improvement.

• Research emerging technologies, tools and software-development frameworks.

• Collaborate with other engineers to solve complex technical problems.

What we’re looking for

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or another relevant discipline.

• Strong professional experience developing applications with Go.

• In-depth knowledge of REST API design.

• Experience designing and maintaining backend services or microservices.

• Experience working with monitoring, logging and distributed-tracing systems.

• Proven experience using SQL databases.

• Proven experience using NoSQL databases.

• Strong knowledge of programming best practices and software-design patterns.

• Experience with systems that automate the deployment, scaling and management of containerised applications.

• A good understanding of algorithms, data structures and algorithmic complexity.

• A good understanding of concurrency and multithreading concepts.

• Experience writing reliable and testable production code.

• An interest in benchmarking, profiling and performance optimisation.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• The ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative engineering team.

• A proactive attitude towards learning and professional development.

Skills that would be an advantage

• Experience with additional programming languages.

• Knowledge of AWS cloud services.

• Experience using Terraform.

• Experience working with gRPC.

• Knowledge or practical experience with generative AI technologies.

• Contributions to open-source software projects.
