Head of ML

About the Role

JetBrains is seeking an experienced ML leader to spearhead the development of an AI-native platform for software development. This leadership position involves creating products with an ML backbone while balancing cutting-edge research with pragmatic product delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a team of approximately 50 people across multiple AI initiatives, including ML engineers and MLOps specialists

• Identify, prioritize, and champion high-impact AI projects aligned with JetBrains' product strategy

• Set technical direction for the ML roadmap, translating AI advancements into practical product innovations

• Establish technical standards, architectural direction, and best practices for ML development

• Ensure projects deliver measurable business value and meet commitments

• Drive cross-functional collaboration with products across the company integrating AI technologies

• Build and develop team leads while managing multiple complex initiatives simultaneously

Required Qualifications

• Proven track record shipping production ML systems in use by real users

• Experience building business cases for technical projects

• Deep understanding of modern ML infrastructure, LLMs, and AI tooling

• Outstanding stakeholder management and communication skills

• Ability to balance long-term R&D with short-term product needs

• Strong management capabilities and attention to detail

• Comfortable working with senior leadership in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with distributed training of multi-billion parameter models

• Knowledge of CI systems, workflow automation, and experiment tracking

• Familiarity with Kotlin programming language
