About the role
XM is looking for an experienced Senior Data Scientist to join its Data Science and Business Intelligence department in Cyprus.
In this role, you will lead the development of machine-learning solutions and data products designed to solve complex business challenges and deliver measurable value.
You will work across the complete data-science lifecycle, from defining analytical approaches and preparing data to selecting models, evaluating experiments and supporting production deployment.
The position involves close collaboration with data engineers, machine-learning engineers, software engineers, product owners and business stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing
Lead the design and delivery of advanced data-science and machine-learning solutions.
Translate complex business requirements into structured analytical approaches.
Develop scalable data products that support business decision-making and automation.
Build, evaluate and optimise machine-learning models.
Review data preparation, feature engineering, model selection and experimentation processes.
Help establish appropriate evaluation metrics and quality standards.
Support the deployment of machine-learning models in batch and real-time environments.
Contribute to technical decisions and best practices across the data-science lifecycle.
Write clean, maintainable and production-ready Python code.
Work with large and complex datasets using modern data-processing tools.
Present analytical findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
Maintain clear documentation for models, experiments and technical decisions.
Ensure solutions meet data-quality, security, privacy and model-governance requirements.
Promote responsible and reliable use of artificial intelligence.
Identify opportunities to apply data science to forecasting, personalisation, optimisation, automation and risk management.
Collaborate with engineering and product teams to bring analytical solutions into production.
Help improve technical standards, team processes and project-delivery practices.
Support the Lead Data Scientist with roadmaps, priorities and strategic initiatives.
What we’re looking for
A university degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science or another quantitative discipline.
At least five years of professional experience in data science, machine learning or a closely related role.
Advanced Python programming skills.
The ability to write clean, reliable and production-ready code.
Hands-on experience using Pandas, NumPy and similar data-processing libraries.
Experience using Polars or another high-performance data-processing framework.
Strong knowledge of modern machine-learning methods.
Familiarity with advanced architectures such as Transformers and Graph Neural Networks.
Good SQL skills.
Strong knowledge of statistics and analytical methods.
Experience with model development, evaluation and optimisation.
Experience presenting complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Excellent analytical thinking and structured problem-solving skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Excellent written and spoken English.
A collaborative approach and willingness to continuously develop new skills.
Skills that would be an advantage
Experience with Natural Language Processing.
Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.
Familiarity with software-engineering standards and development practices.
Experience working in Unix or Linux environments.
Basic knowledge of AWS services.
Experience working with cloud-based machine-learning environments.
Familiarity with model governance, responsible AI and privacy requirements.
Experience deploying models in batch or real-time production systems.
Knowledge of forecasting, personalisation, optimisation or risk-modelling systems.
Experience guiding technical decisions or supporting less-experienced team members.
Work arrangement
This is a full-time hybrid position that can be based in either Limassol or Nicosia, Cyprus.
