About the Role
JetBrains is seeking a Lead Product Designer to shape the future of YouTrack, a sophisticated project management and issue-tracking platform used by startups to Fortune 100 companies. In this leadership position, you'll oversee a small design team of two designers while serving as an individual contributor on the platform's most complex challenges.
YouTrack handles intricate workflows including agile boards, backlogs, knowledge bases, helpdesks, and deeply customizable processes. The role focuses on reconsidering category-defining assumptions and exploring how AI can fundamentally improve how teams collaborate and manage work.
Key Responsibilities
Lead design strategy for how project management evolves in an AI-native world, translating concepts into usable tools
Design human-AI interaction patterns including conversational interfaces, inline assistance, and background automation
Develop solutions for complex, unsettled problems such as surfacing AI confidence and maintaining user control
Prototype and validate concepts rapidly to distinguish genuinely valuable ideas from superficially clever ones
Maintain coherence across a large, deep product surface including boards, helpdesks, reports, and administration
Partner with product and engineering leadership to influence roadmap priorities from a design perspective
Build and mentor a design team with a lightweight, non-bureaucratic process
Required Experience
Proven track record leading design of complex, data-rich productivity tools where information architecture is central
Deep understanding of modern AI systems beyond single-turn interactions, including agentic workflows
Experience mentoring designers and providing constructive feedback that raises standards
Ability to design experiences serving both small startup and large enterprise customers simultaneously
Portfolio demonstrating range from micro-interactions to large-scale information architecture
