About the Role
JetBrains is seeking a QA Automation Engineer to ensure the stability and reliability of JetBrains Runtime (JBR), a fork of OpenJDK used to launch all IntelliJ-based IDEs. This role focuses on maintaining runtime quality across builds, directly impacting millions of developers who rely on JetBrains products daily.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze automated test results from regular builds to investigate Java runtime and test failures
Conduct thorough investigations into user-reported issues and ensure accurate triage
Analyze thread dumps and JVM crash logs to identify deadlocks, freezes, and Event Dispatch Thread responsiveness issues
Collaborate with development teams to understand runtime architecture and ongoing changes
Work with the support team to reproduce and resolve issues in public builds
Own JetBrains Runtime quality by organizing issue tracking and prioritizing quality tasks
Required Qualifications
Solid understanding of Java, AWT, Swing, and Java2D
Hands-on experience analyzing thread dumps, JVM crash logs, and memory issues using JDK diagnostic tools
Ability to read and understand tests using jtreg, JUnit, gtest, or ctest
Experience reproducing complex technical issues and working with trackers like YouTrack, Jira, or GitHub
Familiarity with macOS and Linux environments
Strong communication skills and ownership mindset
