About the Role
JetBrains is seeking a Release Engineer to own and optimize the release infrastructure for their massive IDE ecosystem. Working with a 14 GB monorepo and 500+ daily commits, you'll be responsible for building reliable systems that enable smooth, predictable releases without blocking engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design, configure, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like TeamCity, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions
Manage branching strategies, coordinate code freezes, and handle hotfix releases
Diagnose pipeline failures and resolve build bottlenecks before they impact delivery
Automate repetitive release tasks and improve issue tracking workflows in YouTrack
Gather requirements from development teams to identify pain points and implement tooling improvements
Communicate process changes to stakeholders and support teams through transitions
Lead retrospectives after incidents to continuously refine release processes
Requirements
Proven hands-on experience building, maintaining, and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines
Fluency in Kotlin or Java
Practical experience with Gradle or similar build systems
Familiarity with Linux environments and shell scripting
Proficiency with issue tracking tools like YouTrack or Jira
Professional fluency in written and spoken English
Strong systematic approach to solving complex infrastructure problems and clear communication skills
Proven ability to automate tasks and drive operational excellence
Preferred: Experience with large-scale monorepo builds, JetBrains toolchain, plugin compatibility testing, or multi-product release pipelines.
