Backend Software Engineer
About the role
Exness is looking for an experienced Backend Software Engineer to join its engineering team in Limassol, Cyprus.
In this role, you will design, develop and improve backend services operating in high-load financial environments. You will take ownership of complex features, contribute to architectural decisions and help ensure that systems remain scalable, reliable and maintainable.
The position combines hands-on software development with code reviews, technical problem-solving, performance optimisation and improvements to engineering processes. You will work with engineers, technical leads, QA specialists, product teams and other stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle.
What you’ll be doing
Design and deliver complex backend features and services.
Write clean, secure, efficient and maintainable production code.
Ensure new functionality meets both functional and technical requirements.
Develop automated tests and maintain strong test coverage.
Perform unit, integration and load testing.
Review code and provide constructive technical feedback to other engineers.
Investigate and resolve complex architectural and performance problems.
Improve service latency, fault tolerance, scalability and resilience.
Support systems operating under high traffic and processing loads.
Identify and reduce technical debt within existing services.
Improve the integration of backend services with other system components.
Participate in architecture discussions and influence technical decisions.
Create and maintain clear technical documentation.
Automate repetitive engineering and operational tasks.
Debug, profile and optimise existing applications.
Contribute to CI/CD, release and deployment processes.
Promote clean-code principles and modern engineering practices.
Help improve team workflows, development standards and testing processes.
Support the onboarding and professional development of other engineers.
Participate in technical interviews and internal knowledge-sharing activities.
What we’re looking for
At least five years of professional backend software-development experience.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical field.
Commercial experience with C++ is preferred.
Strong experience developing high-load backend systems.
Knowledge of concurrent and multithreaded programming.
Experience designing and maintaining microservices.
Strong understanding of system design and software-integration patterns.
Experience creating reliable and scalable APIs and backend services.
Solid understanding of databases, data storage and database architecture.
Experience working with ORM tools and database-management systems.
Experience conducting technical code reviews.
Knowledge of modern version-control workflows, including branching, reviews and releases.
Practical experience with CI/CD and automated delivery processes.
Experience with operating systems, networking, monitoring and virtualisation.
Familiarity with containers and modern DevOps practices.
Experience writing unit, integration and load tests.
Strong debugging, profiling and performance-optimisation skills.
English proficiency at B2 level or above.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
The ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
Clear communication and effective cross-functional collaboration skills.
A strong sense of ownership and attention to software quality.
Skills that would be an advantage
Experience developing financial-market, trading or fintech systems.
Experience with distributed systems.
Knowledge of low-latency software architecture.

Work arrangement
This is a full-time position based at the Exness office in Limassol, Cyprus.
